Series: Provoke, Book 1
Author: Missy Johnson
Organized by: Indie Sage, LLC
Release Date: March 17, 2014
Mace Jordan was not the type of guy I expected to sweep me off my feet. I knew of the crowd he ran with, and they were bad news. But beyond that tough, biker exterior was a sweetheart, and one that treated me like his princess.
I liked being the good girl with the bad boy, but I never expected this. What I saw on his computer…I thought I knew him.
But I was wrong. So wrong…
If there was ever a bad time for me to fall for a chick it was now, but from the moment I saw Leeta, she had me. There was something special about her, and I had to have her. But I also had a job to do, and I couldn’t let her distract me from that. I couldn’t let her discover that side of me either. But she’s not stupid, and I know she’s getting close. God knows what she’ll do if she discovers the truth.
Or what she thinks is the truth.
About the Author:
Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she’s a cat, a cat who thinks he’s a dog…you get the picture).
When she’s not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
The Romance Vault’s Verdict ♥♥♥♥ hearts
I received a copy of Provoke in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.
Firstly I’ve got to say – that cover…. Instant swoon! ☺
How did I feel whilst reading Provoke, well I can’t honestly say wow; because I’ve read books similar to this that have more fire in their belly BUT I certainly did enjoy it and found it easy to sink into and the need was there to find out what was going to happen to Mace and indeed Leeta.
Mace I did struggle with a little, for the son of a notorious family, his decision making skills were pretty non-existent to say the least. He seemed to stutter over making them and if it wasn’t for some carefully worded plot I couldn’t see him making the right decision ;0) if you follow what I mean.
I was also expecting a certain person (another character) to be a bad boy, it seemed the foundations had been laid for that to be the case and was surprised when it got taken in a different direction and I’m glad it did.
As for Leeta, I am still debating how she should have acted when she found out the things she did. I think she could have reacted a little differently over finding out what Mace had done. I suppose I am judging it on how my reaction would have been and well mine would be nowhere near similar to Leeta’s but then hey that’s why we’re all different!
To sum it up, this errs towards a dark romance, it contains sexual scenes that some might find disturbing but on the whole it’s nowhere near as dark as some of the dark romances out there. Let’s think kitten re the darkness of it, but having said that you should know I have read many really dark books and I can handle content that blows your mind with what goes on but for me this was on the tame side.
All in all it’s not action packed per se, but it’s got a good storyline, a solid structure, easy to fall into the plot and characters that are annoying at times but intriguing to follow along with them. Will this win any literary prizes? well no…. but it will deliver a nice piece of escapism that is a little different to what some are used to. I am happy to give this 4 stars as a really enjoyable read, I feel it deserves it.
